Hazard Information Services built with Open Data

Conference presentation

Conrad Bielski, EOXPLORE and Gunter Zeug, Terranea

By simplifying access to hazard related information services, citizens are empowered to act locally. The European Historical Flood Database service and the Global Disaster Hotspot Mapping service being developed by EOXPLORE and Terranea within the MELODIES project take advantage of the available spatial information relevant to natural hazard events. By integrating different data sources, the services provide citizens and professionals with information to improve disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. The European Historical Flood Database service allows users to search, locate, and update past European flood events and the Hotspot Mapper service enables users to create maps in any part of the world.
